Junior Section

One of the premier Junior ‘Field’ Hockey Clubs in the country, Beeston Hockey Club provides opportunities for young people between the ages of 6 yrs and 18 yrs to learn to play ‘field’ hockey,  to be coached in the whole range of skills necessary to do their best in competitions.  The club enters boys and girls teams for the under 10’s and under 12’s  County Mini Hockey Championships, and the under 14’s, under 16’s and under 18’s  English Hockey National Club Championship Cup.  There are also numerous friendly tournaments, festivals and matches from under 8’s to under 18’s for boys, girls and mixed teams; and adult league teams when appropriate.

Our qualified coaches are trained in child protection and have been screened for their suitability for working with young people.  These regular coaches supervise all coaching and many are volunteers who receive no payment for all their time and expertise.

We welcome parents to all training and competitions and value your support. We are keen to try and involve parents in the club and you can find out more about the club from this website, our regular emails and our managers and coaches.

Junior Development

Saturday Hockey

When our Junior members turn 13 years old they are also eligble to train and play with the club’s adult teams that play on Saturdays and also additional training during the week. Beeston runs 6 men’s league teams with the 1st XI playing in the National Premier League (outdoor and indoor), 7 ladies league teams with the 1st XI playing in the England Hockey League, North Conference.

The club has a structured pathway to enable youngsters to progress to higher adult teams when they are ready and in fact has a national reputation for encouraging junior players in their adult teams. There is an additional membership fee once juniors progress to regular Saturday hockey.

Club training nights are Wednesdays 6.30pm – 8.30pm for Ladies and 8.30pm – 10.00pm for Men.

Representational Hockey

We encourage the juniors to seek representational honours at county, regional and national levels when ready. Currently Beeston have male and female junior internationals as well as numerous regional players and too many county players to mention!

Coaching and Umpiring Opportunities

Older juniors are encouraged to gain umpiring, young leadership and coaching qualifications. They can become involved in the many junior events held at the club as timekeepers, umpires, announcers, stewards and assistant coaches. Several older juniors help regularly at Sunday morning coaching sessions and we also now run a Coaching Academy which is for our older 16-18 year old members who wish to improve as a coach or umpire. Membership of this academy requires a regular commitment to Sunday morning training sessions as well as attending coaching academy sessions at intervals throughout the season. If you are interested in being considered for the academy please email junioradmin@beestonhockeyclub.comDuke of Edinburgh Volunteering

We always have a number of our junior members volunteering on Sunday mornings to gain their Duke of Edinburgh Award. Places for DofE helpers are restricted so please contact junioradmin@beestonhockeycub.com to find out if we need volunteers for 2016-17.

Other Opportunities

Junior members are offered other coaching sessions during the summer break including goalkeeping courses and Summer Academy sessions.
