Amongst the best Junior Field Hockey Clubs in the UK, Beeston Hockey Club provides opportunities for young people between the ages of 4 and 18 years to learn to play field hockey, and to be taught a full range of skills necessary to play and compete at the highest level.

The club enters boys and girls teams for the Under 10’s and Under 12’s into the ‘County Mini Hockey Championships’, and the Under 14’s, Under 16’s and Under 18’s into the England Hockey National Cup Competitions. There are also numerous friendly tournaments, festivals and matches from under 8’s to under 18’s for boys, girls and mixed teams; and adult teams when appropriate.

Our qualified coaches are trained in child safeguarding and have enhanced DBS qualifications, allowing them to work with children. These regular coaches deliver all coaching and many are volunteers who receive no payment for their time and expertise.

We welcome parents to all training and competitions, and value your support. We are keen to try and involve parents in the club and you can find out more about the club from this website, our regular emails and our managers and coaches.

Junior Development

Saturday Hockey

When our Junior members turn 13 years old they are eligible to train and play with the club’s adult teams, they play on Saturdays. Beeston run 9 men’s league teams and 7 ladies league teams with both the 1st XI’s playing in the England Hockey Premier League.

The club has a structured pathway to enable youngsters to progress to higher adult teams when they are ready, and in fact has a national reputation for encouraging junior players in their adult teams.

There is an additional membership fee once juniors progress to regular Saturday hockey.

Club training takes place on Wednesdays 6:30pm – 9:30pm for Ladies and Men.

Representational Hockey

We encourage the juniors to seek representational honours at county, regional and national levels when ready. Currently Beeston have male and female junior internationals as well as numerous regional players and too many county players to mention!

Coaching and Umpiring Opportunities

Older juniors are encouraged to gain umpiring, young leadership and coaching qualifications. They can become involved in the many junior events held at the club as timekeepers, umpires, announcers, stewards and assistant coaches. Several older juniors help regularly at Sunday morning coaching sessions, and we have opportunities for our 16-18 year old members who wish to improve as a coach or umpire. If you are interested in becoming involved in above the roles, please email [email protected]

Duke of Edinburgh Volunteering

We always have a number of our junior members volunteering on Sunday mornings to gain their Duke of Edinburgh Award. Places for D of E helpers are restricted so please contact [email protected] to find out if we need volunteers for 2022-23.

Other Opportunities

Junior members are offered other training sessions during the summer break including Summer Academy sessions.
