Beeston U16 Girls v Neston (a) – 4 Feb 2018
The girls made the long trip to Neston hoping to make it 3 wins out of 3 in their quest to reach the regional finals. Having won the 2 previous games against Leek and Deeside the girls were in a confident mood knowing that victory would put them top of the group.
The Bees started brightly, passing the ball quickly and accurately. It wasn’t long, before good work down the right by Fran and Sarah led to Charlotte M making no mistake by firing into the bottom corner after 10 minutes to make it 1-0. The lead was soon doubled by Maddie who hit a cracking shot from just inside the D after 15 minutes. It was really one-way traffic at this point, with Neston unable to get out of their own half.
The third goal was another good team effort. This time, Emma and Becca combined skilfully, to again find Maddie in the D, who crashed the ball into the backboard giving the keeper no chance. 3-0 to Beeston after 22 minutes. Becca was again the provider as she fed Sarah who made it 4-0 with a shot that flew into the roof of the net after 31 minutes. A short corner at the end of the half saw a shot from Sarah deflected in to the net by Charlotte T.
HT Neston 0-5 Beeston
Neston came out fighting in the second half and were working hard to restrict the number of chances Beeston could create. The girls were keeping the ball well and passing it nicely from the front, through the midfield and up to the attackers- Hattie in particular making some great passes and tackles.
The 6th goal wasn’t too far away, as a loose pass from a Neston defender was well controlled by Sarah. She then powered into the D, beating a couple of opponents before smashing it past the keeper. Maddie then completed her hat trick after some neat work down the right by Fran, Jenna and Becca. Jenna then made another mazy run down the right, before cutting the ball back for Sarah to complete her hat trick with a super shot on the reverse.
The team should be rightly proud of this performance. They all played their part and at times played some slick hockey. Credit to the Neston team who battled all the way and never gave up.
Final score Neston 0-8 Beeston
