Beeston Hockey Club are delighted to announce the appointment of Colin Clarke as the new Ladies 1st XI Head Coach. Clarke, a former Scotland International player, joins the club with an impressive coaching CV having coached Grange Hockey Club Mens 1st XI in Scotland for seven years as well as working at an international level coaching Scotland U16s and U18s, and most recently working as an assistant coach within the Great Britain Under 21 womens squad.
Born in Northern Ireland, Clarke grew up playing at Lisnagarvey Hockey Club and gained junior international honours with Ireland before moving to Scotland in 2002 and joining Grange. While at Grange he was called up to Scotland squad in 2006, and made 33 appearances for the Blue Sticks.
During the last year, Clarke has joined Nottingham Trent University as their Head of Hockey, and he will now take on the role at Beeston in addition to his duties with the University and Great Britain.
Commenting on the appointment, Beeston Ladies Manager Chris Glover said, “We are delighted to be able to secure Colin services as we look to build towards challenging to regain our place in the Investec National Premier League. Colin has a great track record, and we feel his experience and enthusiasm are just what we need to help us move to the next level.”
Clarke was also delighted to have taken the Beeston role, explaining “This was a wonderful opportunity that I couldn’t turn down. Beeston Hockey Club has a fantastic reputation around the country and having spent a bit of time down here since my move to Nottingham I can see why. The squad I am inheriting is a young, talented group, and I am very much looking forward to working with them.”
