What a day! After a calm warm up and an entertaining photo shoot, the girls ably stepped up to the challenge of some really testing opposition in a tough group containing 3 regional winners. They played some super hockey, fought hard for every ball and scored well-worked goals…..Jane’s brilliant keeping deserves a special mention too.
We finished a creditable second overall in our group behind Sevenoaks and progressed to the 3/4 playoffs where we beat Clifton Robinson to secure 3rd overall. Surbiton beat Sevenoaks on flicks in the final.
Thanks to all who sent us messages of support and to those who came to the club to cheer us on. Also to all the Beeston ladies who kindly lent us their shirts!
In other news, the girls were featured on the England Hockey twitter feed for their hair do’s, Jacob accepted a chilli eating challenge at our team supper, Paige got told off during one of our games, Sophia and Francesca arrived on time and Violet only took out 4 players in total over the whole day.
Thanks so much to Sylvia, Paige, Jacob, Danny, Nicola, Jon, Katy, Caitlin and Richard for coaching/umpiring the girls over the whole season and to Simon, David and Griff for all their support. The Bees would not have been at the Nationals yesterday without all their hard work and belief in us.
Every single girl in the U12 squad this season has contributed to us being placed third nationally and we are so proud of all of them.
