BEESTON are delighted to announce four new signings for the men’s and ladies 1st XI. Meg Byas has re-joined the club after a three year period studying in the USA. Byas, a member of the Beeston squad who were promoted to the National Premier League in 2013 will add some depth and experience to the Beeston defence as they continue their push for the Investec Conference North title and a place in the play-off finals at the end of the season.
Following the addition of Byas, the club also signed Scotland and Great Britain goalkeeper, Nicki Cochrane. Cochrane has recently been named in the Great Britain squad working towards the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
Meg’s brother, Will Byas, also re-joins the club after a spell playing abroad in Australia for Westside Wolves. He is joined in the men’s 1st team squad with young goalkeeping talent, Will Powell, from Northampton.
Beeston ladies manager, Chris Glover, commented, “These two players will hopefully help take us to where we want to go. We are very lucky with the quality of the squad we already have, and the addition of Meg and Nicki will help further strengthen us. Meg has already settled back into life at Beeston very quickly, and she was a key part of our promotion in the indoor competition. We are now looking forward to seeing her have a significant impact on the outdoor programme. With Nicki, her international experience will be something we will be wanting to tap into to help the squad through some of the exciting challenges that lie ahead.”
The Ladies restart their outdoor season this Saturday with a trip up North to face Timperley. The Cheshire based side currently lie 9th in the league, and although it will be a tough game, Beeston will be looking for a win to re-start the second half of the season. The match starts at 12.30pm.
The men’s 1st team also restart this weekend and face Wimbledon (league) at home on Saturday at 2pm and Reading (cup 1/4 final) on Sunday at 2pm. Come on down and support the Bees.
