England Hockey Investec North Conference

Beeston 2 – 0 Loughborough Students
Nottingham Hockey Centre, 26th November – 12:00pm
The Whirlowdale Bees take top spot in the North Conference this weekend. The Bees beat Loughborough Students by two goals to nil on Saturday. League leaders, Brooklands Poynton, were due to face Sutton Coldfield but the match was postponed due to a frozen pitch and, as a result, the Bees leap to the top of the league.
Beeston’s Sophie Robinson put the Bees ahead in the 9th minute with a goal from open play. The top goal scorer extended the lead for the Bees in the 56th minute with a penalty corner goal, taking her tally for the season to an impressive 11 goals in the league.
Manager, Chris Glover, commented, “The squad has worked extremely hard through the first half of the outdoor season. We have put ourselves in a very good position as we reach the winter break. It has been a real pleasure to lead the group while Colin has been away with the England U21 squad at the Junior World Cup. Both Phil and I were pleased with the professionalism, work ethic and level of performance during this period. We now begin the indoor season, which will be a hugely significant period for us. Firstly, we have high ambitions to succeed in this competition and we hope to earn promotion from Division 2. Secondly, a successful indoor programme will only have a positive effect on our performance as we go into the crucial final weeks of the outdoor season.”
The Bees take a 9 week break from the outdoor league season and now begin their indoor hockey campaign in the England Hockey Super 6’s on the 7th and 8th January.
