Beeston played host to Surbiton in the Vitality Women’s Premier Division Phase 2 playoffs. In a thrilling encounter, Surbiton emerged victorious with a 3-1 win against the home side.

The first quarter began with both teams showing their determination to secure a win. However, solid defenses on both ends of the field resulted in a 0-0 scoreline at the end of the quarter. Surbiton earned two penalty corners, but Beeston’s defensive line managed to thwart their attempts.

In the 19th minute, Surbiton’s Alice Sharp (#23) was shown a green card for an infringement, but Beeston could not capitalize on the advantage. The score remained goalless at halftime, with Surbiton having had three penalty corners in total while Beeston had none.

The second half began with Surbiton turning up the heat. In the 36th minute, Izzy Petter (#18) broke the deadlock, scoring from open play to give her side the lead. Beeston fought back, but the score remained 1-0 in Surbiton’s favor at the end of the third quarter.

In the final quarter, Beeston’s Sophie Robinson (#17) leveled the score in the 60th minute with an open-play goal. However, Surbiton quickly regained their lead in the 68th minute when Giselle Ansley (#2) successfully converted a penalty corner, making it 2-1.

With only a minute left on the clock, Darcy Bourne (#5) of Surbiton secured the victory by adding another goal from open play, bringing the final score to 3-1.

The penalty corner count for the match was 6 for Surbiton and 1 for Beeston. Despite Beeston’s best efforts, Surbiton’s persistence and skill paid off, earning them a win in the playoffs.
