The club has appointed James Sordillo as the Women’s Head Coach for the 2021/22 season.
James, who was previously the Women’s 1st XI assistant coach, steps up into the role having already covered the position throughout the off-season.
James was also involved with the historic National Cup win back in September when Beeston won the title for the first time in their history. In his previous role James was also responsible for the 2nd XI where he has built a performance environment and developed a culture that stands them in good stead for the coming seasons.
Before joining Beeston, James worked at Leicester HC, and Trojans HC as well as stints assisting with video analysis at junior finals and at the EHCC in 2018 for Surbiton.
The club has been incredibly impressed by James’ enthusiasm, knowledge, skill and professionalism and look forward to welcoming him to the First Team management group, alongside the Women’s First Team Manager, Zoe Hainsworth.
Women’s 1st Team Manager, Zoe Hainsworth, said: “James is a true Beeston Bee – we’ve got an exciting season ahead of us and I’m very pleased that James will be joining the team in a head coach role this season”.
James commented “I’m really grateful to the club for the opportunity. I recognise the appointment comes at a crucial time and not in easy circumstances after Colin has done such an incredible job, but I’m really looking forward to the challenge. There is a lot of talent in the 1st XI group and I’m looking forward to us working together to build on the legacy of the last few years. I have been really enjoying the work with the 2nd XI, we were having loads of fun and building towards some pretty ambitious goals. I’m really excited to see how they get on.”
Former 1st team player, Laura Cavendish, said, “James has got the 2nd XI squad to a brilliant place and if I was still involved with the first team then I would be incredibly exited to play for them with James coaching”
The first Women’s Premier Division fixture of the season will take place at Nottingham Hockey Centre on Saturday 18th September against Holcombe.
