Whilst studying and also being able to represent Nottingham Trent in the BUCS National League, players will represent Beeston Hockey Club in the England Hockey League.
The joint NTU/Beeston HC programme, has already supported a wide range of high-performing players, including US international Caroline Hanks, who was recently selected for Team USA in the FIH Pro League and Atlètic Terrassa’s, Oriol Roca, who took part in the pilot Erasmus exchange under the STICK Project and we are extremely excited to offer this opportunity again to the 2021 cohort.
An NTU Sport Scholarship will also provide student – athletes with a range of additional support including high levels of Strength & Conditioning and Physiotherapy, lifestyle guidance particularly around athlete transitions from our qualified mentoring staff, as well as a range of other sport science services and assistance with academic flexibility, to allow you to achieve your maximum potential in both sport and academia. This support is available regardless of whatever restrictions are in place due to the COVID – 19 pandemic, with our practitioners having delivered remotely to over 250 student-athletes since March, developing to meet the individual requirements and resources of the athletes.
Head of Hockey Colin Clarke, who is also the Head Coach of Beeston Ladies’ 1st team and a former GB U23 & England U21 Head Coach says: “The opportunity to continue your studies at the 2019 University of the Year (The Guardian University Awards) and a University hockey programme with both Men’s & Ladies’ squads in the BUCS National League, coupled with England Hockey League opportunities with Beeston is the ideal combination. Our high performance ‘international standard ’coaching and support services available to you as an athlete, are designed to enable you to develop your Dual Career aspirations during your time at NTU & Beeston. We have aspirations within the Men’s & Women’s programmes to win BUCS Championships with NTU and qualify for the Euro Hockey League with Beeston.”
David Griffiths, Deputy Chairman of Beeston Hockey Club said of the opportunity: “A partnership with a top flight club and university that is this all-encompassing and comprehensive is a very rare find. I am confident that there is no better place for high level, hockey playing masters students than at Nottingham Trent University and Beeston Hockey Club.”
Chris Campbell, Performance Sport Manager at NTU added, “Our partnership with Beeston has shown itself to be extremely fruitful for both parties over the last year. As well as our very successful collaboration in the Erasmus + Stick Project which was developed to improve student-mobility our student-athlete recruitment for 2020/21 was excellent and is making a significant contribution to the Beeston performances and we look forward to the university National League season beginning in January. Our agreement with Beeston perfectly complements our vision for inspiring potential in student-athletes, allowing us to ensure that our athletes programmes are being appropriately managed to allow them to achieve excellence both academically and on the field of play.”
