Beeston and MOVE have agreed to join together to form a unique partnership for the 2019/20 season.
MOVE are a charity who provide practical and online support to people living with and beyond cancer. MOVE focus their services towards children and young people living with and beyond cancer through an online virtual cancer rehab support programme and also a wider age range through their new national 5k Your Way, Move Against Cancer initiative linked to Park-run. The first ever 5K Your Way, Move Against Cancer group was launched in Nottingham in June 2018.
Using hockey as a social tool, the club hope to raise funds for the charity throughout the season to help support the work that MOVE do.
Beeston’s National League ladies’ teams will wear the MOVE logo on the front of their home shirts, and the club plan to raise funds for the charity and the ladies’ National League programme, split 50:50, over the course of the 2019/20 season. The club have set an ambitious target of £5,000 to raise over the season.
Beeston’s Deputy Chairman, David Griffiths, commented “We are really pleased to enter into this new partnership with MOVE. The iniative was proposed by the ladies’ 1st team management group and I’m delighted to see the partnership come to fruition. The ladies’ 1st team in particular have a strong history of fundraising. I’m sure they will get behind this campaign and it will be a huge success.”
MOVE founder, Gemma Hillier-Moses, commented “We are thrilled to embark on this partnership with Beeston Hockey Club and this will be the first official partnership with a hockey club in the charities history. We are on a mission to inspire and support people moving against cancer and we are delighted to have the ladies’ 1st team and the wider Beeston Hockey Club community joining us.”
Gemma was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 24 in 2012 and founded the MOVE Charity in 2016 to provide people with support that she never received. David was also diagnosed with cancer in 2006 at the age of 21.
