Beeston HC’s Vice Chairman, David Griffiths, is preparing to run Nottingham’s Ikano Bank Robin Hood Half Marathon on Sunday 29th September 2019 in aid of local charity, Switch Up.
Following an introduction by Air IT’s Marketing Director, Paul Judge, to Marcellus Baz of Switch Up, David was struck by the incredible work of the charity and knew he wanted help raise funds.
Switch Up is a Nottingham based charity, led by Marcellus Baz, that empowers Nottingham’s young people, children and young adults. Their important work helps build a better future for young people who are most at risk within the community. Their projects use peer mentoring and sport, in particular boxing at Nottingham School of Boxing, as a hook to engage young people in positive activity.
David Griffiths commented, “I would like to thank Paul for the introduction, it was great to meet Marcellus and listen to the fantastic work they do at Switch Up supporting young children in Nottingham and helping them achieve their potential in life.”
The work that Switch Up is doing is both ground-breaking and incredibly important to communities just like those involved in the creative programmes they run, that reach into the heart of the issues inner cities face every day. The mentoring scheme that Switch Up has in place aims to provide a structured and trusting relationship that brings young people together with experienced positive role models who can offer guidance, support and encouragement to combat issues and pressures.
Paul Judge, Marketing Director at Air IT, added: “After enjoying long relationships with both Beeston Hockey Club and Baz at Switch Up, I’m delighted to have introduced the two likeminded groups. They both do fantastic things for young people through sport and I’m looking forward to seeing them work together, raising further funds for Switch Up. Best of luck to David in the upcoming Half Marathon – all at Air IT will be cheering you on!”
Marcellus Baz, Switch Up, said: “Switch Up helps around 800 young people from Nottingham at any one time so we’re reliant on the kindness of individuals and businesses to continue what we’re doing. The Switch Up team is extremely grateful to David for running the marathon on our behalf and to Paul for sharing our passion of working to make positive change in the lives of those we support. Good luck to David!”
