Hockey in the Community
The hockey centre played host to England and Scotland U21 ladies in October where a two-day training camp took place with matches between the two squads.
A World Class Players camp took place in October with over 50 children taking part over 2 days. On December 22^ndand 23rd, an indoor hockey camp at Nottingham Trent University is due to take place. This is the first time an indoor hockey camp has been organised.
On the 5^th and 6^th of November, the 3^rd STICK Project consortium meeting took place in Rotterdam at Erasmus University Rotterdam and Rotterdam Hockey Club.
The partner institutions monitored the progress of the project and approved the Hockey/Academic mobility scheme under the Erasmus+ scheme. This is the pilot programme designed to test the scheme in all its phases: the application procedure, along with the selection and nomination procedure. It is expected that the hockey players selected to take part in this pilot programme will make their exchange during next academic year, 2019/20 with any of the consortium partners.
The consortium also planned the following steps: the organisation of five simultaneous events at the five countries with representatives of all sports, in order to share the first results of the project with them and see how the programme would work with their particular sport.
The next meeting will take place in Antwerp, Belgium, in February 2019.
The ‘hockey in the community’ schools league for year 9 and 10 took place in October and November. Five boys’ teams and seven girls’ teams entered the competition this year.
Beeston HC have started a number of new coaching sessions in local schools under the Erewash Sports Partnership. Firfield Primary School and Stanley Common Primary School have benefitted from the coaching which has been delivered by Gareth Griffiths (Great Britain U23) Kathryn Lane (England and Great Britain) David Bond (Wales U18) and Jacob Hogben.
In November, the hockey centre hosted an England Hockey club forum meeting which was attended by a number of local clubs.
The Sunday afternoon mixed league continued in November and December.
Nottinghamshire Speakers Club have continued to use the seminar room on Thursday evenings for their fortnightly meetings. Broxtowe MP, Anna Soubry, attended the meeting on the 29^thNovember as a guest speaker.
The site will be closed from Saturday 22^ndDecember to Wednesday 2^ndJanuary during the Christmas period.
Events
Beeston HC hosted an ‘Oktoberfest’ event on the 27^thOctober. The ladies’ and men’s 1^stteams both played the respective Surbiton teams in the England Hockey Premier League. Pilsner ales from Castle Rock Brewery and hand made Lincolnshire poacher sausages were on offer, and fireworks were set off at the end of the matches. Over 600 people attended the event.
The Christmas party tent is back once again organised by Best Parties Ever. The first of the seventeen events took place on Thursday 29^thNovember. The final party takes place on Saturday 22^ndDecember.
Repairs and improvements
The coffee machine in the cafeteria has been replaced. The old machine was over twenty years old and had seen better days. A new worksurface with cabinets underneath has been installed along with a new stud wall. The new coffee machine will provide freshly brewed coffee which is roasted in Nottingham by local coffee company, 200 Degrees.
The hockey centre has partnered up with protein specialists, Grenade, and we now stock a range of their products in the bar and cafeteria.
AstroSport have undertaken a number of repairs to open seams on pitch one.
The front entrance works have now been completed and the entrance sign is now in place with a downlight which lights up in the evening. The cedar tree avenue in the entrance is also illuminated in the evenings and looks spectacular.
The table tennis table has been given a makeover and recovered with a hockey pitch design. It has proven a popular addition to the site and is used regularly.
New LED lights have been installed in the upstairs corridor. These are on motion sensors which will reduce electricity costs. Over time, the new lights will be installed in other corridors and toilets throughout the building.
There was a fault with the pumps in the sewer chamber. Aquajet attended the site and replaced the pump control unit.
