On Saturday 16 September, the Beeston 1 (U13) and Beeston 2 (U12) teams headed over to Foremarke to take part in their annual U13 tournament involving 12 teams in total.
After a tentative start, Beeston 1 improved in their successive games, finishing second overall in their group on goals scored. They went on to play a thrilling semi-final where Foremarke 1 sneaked in an goal in the dying moments of the game. The girls then raised their heads and played superbly to beat Solihull in the 3/4 playoff 2-0 (having drawn with them in the group stage).
Beeston 2 faced Foremarke 1 in their first match and battled well, losing 0-2 in a tight game. Undeterred they went on to win against Spratton and Denstone followed by a frustrating draw against Witham. The girls needed to win their final group match by a margin of 5 goals to progress to the semis….they dug deep and produced a 7-0 victory, earning them a place in the semis against Solihull. This match was tough and physical but our U12s held their own with a 1-0 win. In the final against Foremarke 1 they played their best hockey of the day and narrowly lost by 0-1.
Silver and bronze medals for the U12 and U13 Bees at such an early stage of the season is so very promising! Both teams displayed a really strong team ethos and never let their heads go down all afternoon despite the inevitable ups and downs of tournament play.
Well done to all the girls who played in both teams and a big thanks to Claire, Jon and Richard for coaching and umpiring, to all our parent supporters and to Foremarke for their kind hospitality (and yummy brownies!!).
