Hockey in the Community
Following the success of the new Sunday afternoon mixed league in the first half of the season we have organised a second competition to take place from February to April and there is an extra team now taking part.
In January the centre hosted the Nottinghamshire Schools and Youth U14 & U16 Boys and Girls competitions.
Entries for the summer leagues (men’s 6 a side, men’s masters and men’s 11 a side) are now open and we have already had 28 sides entered so far. These leagues start in May and conclude in August and are run on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The ladies summer league is once again being organised by Beeston HC and is due to start in June on Wednesday evenings.
A ‘Pop Lacrosse’ competition took place in March at the hockey centre with 18 local primary schools taking part.
The Hockey in the Community Schools league for years 7 & 8 took place once again in February and March. Special thanks to Kay Bond who organised the leagues.
John O’Brien joined the team at the Hockey Centre in January following his retirement. John is planning a level 1 umpires course in May and an introduction to hockey coaching course in June. If anyone wants to take part in these courses please contact [email protected]
The Christmas Parties were a success once again this year. The last party took place on 18th December. The damaged wooden teeth along the driveway and damaged grass area where the event took place are still to be reinstated.
The centre hosted the Nottinghamshire U10 and U12 Boys and Girls In2Hockey Championships in February. Congratulations to the Beeston teams who all won their age group competitions.
The David Ross Educational Trust Spring Cup also took place in February and Olympic gold medalist, Crista Cullen, presented the medals to the children at the end of the event.
There are a number of events coming up between April and August at the hockey centre including the England Hockey play-off weekend, the In2Hockey schools and clubs finals and a 6 nations U16 and U18 boys junior international tournament in July.
Repairs and improvements
A new pressure value was installed in the pump house for the irrigation system for pitch 1 in January. Further works are planned for this summer to overhaul the irrigation system which is now 17 years old.
The 6 a side hockey markings on pitch 1 have now been lined and will be topped up ready for the summer leagues and upcoming junior events.
NET have been working through the snagging list from the tram works around the site. The fence panels behind the goal on pitch 1 are splaying and allow balls to pass through the fence. This has been raised to Nottingham City Council and Taylor Woodrow and we are awaiting a response.
The entrance hall, upstairs corridor and corridor leading to changing rooms 5-8 have been painted recently. Thanks to Phil Kirk and the probation team who did the work.
Beeston Hockey Club
Beeston Hockey Club recently announced an exciting partnership with HC Rotterdam in the Netherlands. The two clubs ‘twinned’ on the 1st February 2017 and are planning various exchanges for players and coaches. Touring opportunities will also be available for junior and adult teams the first of which is due to take place in June with Rotterdam U14 girls travelling to Nottingham.
