Beeston 4 – 1 University of Durham
Nottingham Hockey Centre – 18th February – 12:00pm
The Whirlowdale Bees were on fine form last Saturday as they faced fourth placed side, University of Durham, at Nottingham Hockey Centre in front of a large home crowd.
The Bees got of the mark in the 8th minute with a open play goal from top goalscorer, Sophie Robinson. Rosy Stephens added to the Bees lead twice in the 21st and 28th minutes with two well worked open play goals.
After a good first half of hockey from Beeston the Bees went in to half time 3-0 up.
In the second half, Nina Apoola (making her 1st team debut) found space in the D and was awarded a penalty for the Bees in the 57th minute. England U21 International, Esme Burge, stepped up and calmly slotted the ball in to the Durham net to put the Bees 4 goals ahead.
The Univeristy of Durham pulled back a consolation goal with just 2 minutes left on the clock through Helena Youmans.
Head Coach, Colin Clarke, commented, “We played some extremely good hockey today and everyone worked together throughout the game. I was really pleased with Nina Apoola’s performance and she should very proud of her debut for Beeston. We face Wakefield next weekend and I hope we can keep the pressure on Brooklands Poynton at the top of the league as they need to keep winning every game.”
