England Hockey Investec North Conference

Weakfield 0 – 3 Beeston
Wakefield Hockey Club, 19th November – 1:30pm
The Whirlowdale Bees travelled up the M1 to face Wakefield this Saturday in the Investec North Conference. Sophie Robinson was the hero of the day as she netted a hat-trick for Bees leading them to a 0-3 win away from home.
The Bees were out of the starting blocks as soon as the whistle went and took an early lead after just 2 minutes with an open play goal from Sophie Robinson. Just 4 minutes later, in the 6th minute, Sophie Robinson extended the Bees lead to two goals with another goal from open play.
In the second half the Bees were awarded a penalty corner in the 43rd minute and Sophie Robinson calmly slotted home her third goal of the game to seal the win for the Bees.
The Bees play their last home game before the Christmas break next Saturday (26th November) against Loughborough Students at Nottingham Hockey Centre at 12pm.
Both teams will unite and will be warming up in charity t-shirts to raise awareness of Martin Dawkins’ fundraising efforts. His daughter, Lucy, has played for both clubs and her father was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer last year. Martin is running the London Marathon in aid of the John Geest Cancer Research Centre. In showing their support for Martin, both teams will be helping raise awareness and will be fundraising for the charity.
