Surbiton 6 – 1 Beeston
Surbiton Hockey Club, 12th November.
The FHP Bees were on the road last Saturday and travelled down to Sugden Road to meet Surbiton. The Bees have not won a game at Sugden Road since 13th October 2007 – The running streak of losses continued.
Surbiton striker, Alan Forsyth, was on top form and put the home side ahead in the 7th minute. Dave Beckett extended the lead in the 21st minute as he converted Surbiton’s only penalty corner goal of the game.
Mark Gleghorne gave the Bees a glimmer of hope just before half-time as he slotted the ball from a penalty corner in to the Surbiton net. However, Surbiton reacted instantly from the push back and Alan Forsyth fired the ball past Simon Hujwan in the Beeston goal – Surbiton were 3-1 up at half-time.
There was an echo of Alan Forsyth’s name in the second half as he continued to cause havoc to the Beeston defence. He netted in the 44th, 68th and 69th minute bring his goal tally for the match to 5!
Beeston’s assistant coach, Steve Musson, commented after the match, “This place is haunted. We come here every year looking to right the wrongs of the previous season and somehow never manage pick up a win. We just didn’t turn up today and the lads are obviously disappointed with the result. However, we are back home next week against Holcombe – We love playing at home, it just feels different.”
Beeston play Kent giants, Holcombe, at 2pm on Sunday 20th November at Nottingham Hockey Centre.
