GOLD rush – Beeston fans swarm to watch the Bees! Photo c/o David Kissman

The Olympic effect perhaps? The GOLD rush. The start of the season has seen an increase of spectators flooding through the gates to watch the Gold and Black Bees at Nottingham Hockey Centre.
There was a bumper crowd of spectators who came to watch the ladies 1st team’s first home game against Belper in September. The fixture took place on a Friday night under lights in September and was sponsored by headline sponsor, Whirlowdale.
The men’s 1st team also saw a bumper crowd last weekend in their first home game of the season against Reading. Well over 400 spectators swarmed down to Nottingham Hockey Centre to watch to Bees win their 3rd match of the season and maintain their 100% record in the Premier League this season.
So are we all inspired and hungry for hockey after the Olympic Gold medal success of former Beeston players Hollie Webb and Shona McCallin? And let’s not forget Great Britain’s gold medal winning assistant coach, former Beeston 1st team player and head coach, Craig Keegan, who frequently would tell the opposition during the match, in his strong Tasmanian accent, “That’s BEESTON GOLD my friend, and DON’T you forget it!”
The ladies 1st team will be looking to maintain their 100% record in the Investec North Conference league this Saturday as they face Timperley at home at 2pm. Entry is free and the bar, and cafeteria, will be open so there is no excuse not to to come down and support the Bees!
C’MON YOU BEES!
