Loughborough Students 1 – 3 Beeston
Loughborough University, 18th September
Mark Gleghorne converted two corners for Beeston as they beat Loughborough Students 3-1 on the road. Chris Proctor also found the net with Tom Crowson pulling one back late on for the home side.
Else where in the Men’s Premier Division, Michael Watt and Matt Guise-Brown both scored hat-tricks as Hampstead and Westminster opened their account with a stunning 7-2 victory over Canterbury.
The game was level at 2-2 up until the 37th minute with Watt and Guise Brown on target for Hampstead and Tom Bean and Craig Boyne replying for the visitors.
But it was all Hampstead from that point on with Watt and Guise Brown completing their trebles and Chris Cargo scoring their other goal.
Holcombe didn’t lose a single game last season and they carried their form over with a 3-2 win over Surbiton on Saturday.
After going behind to a Nick Parkes goal on six minutes, a Sam Ward brace and a Gareth Andrew strike put Holcombe 3-1 up. Morgan Males pulled one back for the visitors.
A Simon Mantell double helped Wimbledon to a 4-1 victory over Brooklands Manchester University. Ian Sloan and Phil Bell scored the others for the winners with Peter Flanagan bagging the consolation for the students.
A late Ed Carson goal earned a point for Reading as they drew 2-2 with East Grinstead. Sam Driver and Nick Caitlin got East Grinstead off the mark but Carson’s goal, in addition to an earlier Dan Shingles effort, gave Reading a share of the spoils.
