MIDLANDS PREMIER LEAGUE CHAMPIONS 2012/13 & 2013/14

Captains Report 2013/14 Season by Sophie Glover

The season for the Ladies 2nd XI has once again been a successful and enjoyable one.  This season saw a big change in players, with only 8 of the squad from last year playing more than half our league games.  This was due to players moving in to the 1st team, moving to pastures new or having babies!  This had its own challenges, but we were lucky enough to have a very strong pool of players to draw from.  Over the season, in the cup and the league we used 51 players, 44 in the league alone!

By the close of the season, we reached the semi-final of the 2nd XI Cup and were again Midlands Premier League Champions. This made us the first team to win the league back-to-back in over ten years and the first 2nd team to ever win it twice.  We managed to finish the league with more points than last year claiming the title with two games to go. The winning margin of 10 points was the highest since 2006.  We scored 86 goals in total from 23 different goal scorers, showing our breadth!  We conceded just 20 goals in 23 matches and before Christmas we had not conceded a goal from open play by an opposing player!

We were the highest placed 2nd team in the league structure over the course of a full season, and should we have been eligible, we would have once again earned National League status.

None of this would have been possible without the amazing team that we had this year and all the hard work that we put in on the pitch.  Specifically, I would like to say a big thank you to Ali Bicker, Heather Morris and Nic Jenner who have provided invaluable support across the season, on and off the pitch.  I would also like to wish those that are moving on, all the best and look forward to welcoming back some familiar faces next season.  Finally, a massive thank you to our coach Chris Glover, who worked extremely hard to get the best out of us all, help us to improve as individuals and a team and enjoy our hockey.

Looking forward to next season already!
